The Mid-West Concrete Industry Board was founded in 1960 to promote quality concrete construction in the Kansas City area. Membership consists of contractors, ready mix producers, cement producers, architects, engineers, testing labs, aggregate producers and suppliers to the concrete industry.
Concrete specifications were developed in the early 1960's to continue to improve the quality of concrete construction, and have been updated as standards and practices dictate.

The annual Concrete Technology Course originated in 1966 and was taught in sessions that took several months to complete. The course has been revamped to cover two days and is held early in January each year. Over the years, this popular course has gained widespread recognition, drawing attendees from Iowa and Nebraska as well as Kansas and Missouri. By conservative estimate, over 3,000 students have received certification. The instructors who volunteer their time and expertise to this event each year are the ones that make it happen.

The MCIB Scholarship Fund was established in 1990 to further benefit the industry by providing financial assistance to area engineering students pursuing degrees that place an emphasis on concrete or concrete design. The Greater Kansas City Community Foundation administers this perpetual fund. Since it's inception, the MCIB fund has granted over $25,000 in scholarship awards. A fund raising event is held each year to benefit the scholarship fund.
|
The association has 4 membership meetings during the year:
- September - General meeting
- November - Joint meeting with KS & MO Chapters of ACI
- March - Certification Banquet
- June - Annual meeting and Past Presidents Recognition
Officers are elected annually and the Board of Directors represents all segments of the concrete industry. MCIB continues to focus on the original objectives -- continuing the Concrete Technology Course, supporting the perpetual scholarship fund, and publishing concrete specifications.
